Set on
July 6th 1944 Benouville recreates the British attack
on two bridges at the village of Benouville in France.
The British landed three gliders, one near the bridge
over the river Orne and two near the bridge over the
canal, which was described as the finest piece of
airmanship during the war as it was at night with
just compasses and stopwatches. The British took and
held the bridges untill their relief, the 6th airborne,
arrived. The river bridge was taken without a fight
as the Germans had left their positions, the canal
bridge that became known as Pegasus bridge however
was still defended. Pegasus bridge was defended by
approximately 50 german troops and once the bridge
was taken the Germans made two counter attacks, on
one occasion a German tank was deployed, this was
soon put out of action by Sgt. Thornton using a PIAT
anti-tank gun, from very close range!! The first allied
soldier killed on D-Day was at Pegasus bridge.

Search
and Destroy
|
Objective:
The
cache of explosives that could be used to blow
up the bridges needs to be destroyed to ensure
the bridges remain intact. There is also a German
tank based nearby this needs to be put out of
commission to prevent it being used in a counter
attack. The British must plant explosives and
destroy either the explosives or the tank or
eliminate all German resistance. The Germans
must prevent the the British from securing their
position on the bridge by eliminating all attacking
forces and must disarm any explosives planted
by the allies.
Deployment:
The British have landed their gliders in a marshy
area to the west. The German forces are garrisoned
in the school building and large farmhouse to
the east of the bridge.

Retrieval
|
Objective:
The
Allied forces have landed their gliders near
the bridge over the canal at Benouville. During
the landing important papers detailing the various
drop locations and attack plans of the allied
invasion were lost. If the German forces can
retrieve these documents and return them to
their barracks it will greatly increase their
chance of defending against the invasion. It
is imperative that the British relief forces
prevent the Germans from obtaining the documents
and returning them to their barracks for decoding.
Deployment:
The German forces still have control of the
small village of benouville which includes the
barracks in the old school house to the east.
The allied relief force of paratroopers is advancing
down the road from the northeast of the canal.
